Wisdom’s Way of Learning

Wisdom’s Way of Learning –

“Many years of boring, lifeless curriculum can be avoided if mom will submit to a little self education. A significant amount of knowledge in the form of life-governing principles can be learned in a brief period of a few months and then teaching and imparting truth can become as second nature to you as it is to teach the knowledge of facts……internalizing even a few Biblical principles is one of the most practical and freeing things we can do to implement a lifestyle of learning.”

from Lifestyle of Learning News letter -Mar 1998 Vol 2 No 3 Pg 13.

Welcome to Central Valley Homeschooling

Welcome to Central Valley Homeschooling.

We are pleased to be a service to the homeschool community by providing resources and information for homeschool families living up and down the Central Valley.

We believe home education works best when

  • There is a loving relationship between Student and Teacher.
  • There is a supportive, non-stressful environment.
  • Curriculum is devised for the student to learn at his rate with special attention paid to physical and emotional readiness as well as educational.

More important than any academic skill is disciplining our child to know the Lord. After this God given command to teach about Him, we should instill in our children the good habits of listening and following instructions. Young children need to feel like they are a part of the home and learn to joyfully work around the home. Proficiency is not the goal, for that may not come until the maturity of little hands, but instilling the life long habit of work is the goal.

We do not need artificially contrived situations and environments to accomplish God’s best for our children; we simply need committed parents.             Marilyn Howshall

Curriculum

Curriculum

Families may find it useful to purchase curriculum to teach these basics. Careful attention must be paid to the individual needs of each unique child. Some curriculums while raved about by your best friend, will just make you and your child miserable.  If the curriculum is not a good fit re-sale it or give it away and try something else.

When I began homeschooling 17 years ago Abeka, Bob Jones and other big name curriculum companies would not even sell to homeschoolers. Many of the classic curriculums you see today were made by homeschool families to fit their needs and then sold to their homeschool friends.  Homeschoolers today are overwhelmed with the choices being pushed at them. I have seen so many families become fearful of choosing the wrong math or wrong phonics. I have always asked myself “What did they used to use”?

“How did we used to teach before all the bells and whistles were available”? Education as you and I know it has only been around 125 years. It is failing miserably. Why then do we keep looking to its method and humanistic philosophy as the way to educate our children?

Basics of the Education Code For California Home School Families

There are at times a misunderstanding of what is required by law as it pertains to the home school family.

First it must be understood that Public Schools, Charter Programs, Private Schools, Independent Study Programs – ISP’s (also considered a private school) Private School Satellite Program (PSP) (also considered a private school) must follow the rules of their own governing bodies.
